Perła Zachodu - Tama Pilchowicka

Perła Zachodu - Tama Pilchowicka

The route from Jelenia Góra to the dam in Pilichowice follows the Marian Południkiewicz walking and cycling trail. The first attraction is less than two kilometres from the start and it is the Miraculous Spring, whose water has magical properties. Next, we ride through the Pearl of the West. We cover most of the route on tarmac and paved paths. On the way, we pass the iconic Pearl of the West, a PTTK facility with a tradition of more than 85 years. It is situated right on the edge of a steep cliff, which is also the shoreline of Lake Modre. As a result, the terrace offers a spectacular panoramic view of the lake with its bridge and surrounding rocks. Just a few kilometres further on, we stop at another attraction, the Ducal Tower in Siedlcebin. Its biggest attraction is the medieval paintings on the walls of the so-called Great Hall. These are the oldest secular wall paintings in Poland. The polychrome paintings in Siedlce are the only medieval paintings in Europe depicting the story of the most important of the Knights of the Round Table - Sir Lancelot of the Lake - and his love affair with Queen Guinevere. In Vrzeszhyn we come across a charming and interesting place. There is a Stone Water Dam with a hydroelectric power station and a charming lake. You walk over the water outlets to the turbines of the power plant. This is covered with thick metal bars, but the effect is still stunning. The end of the route is in Pilichowice, from where you can admire the historic railway bridge that Tom Cruise himself wanted to use for his film.
